The President of ISPAH is elected by the membership. The role involves a 6-year commitment – 2 years as President-elect, 2 years as President, and 2 years as Past President.
The key roles of the President-elect are:
- Represent ISPAH at regional and international meetings as requested
- Act as Chair of ISPAH Board meetings in absence of ISPAH President
- Lead the biennial ISPAH awards process
- Contribute to organisation and delivery of the biennial ISPAH congress
- Pro-actively seek funding to support the activities of the Society
- As a member of the ISPAH Executive Committee, participate in Executive Committee meetings
- Promote ISPAH to national and international organizations as required
Roles of the ISPAH President are:
- Provide leadership to ISPAH society and ISPAH Board activities
- Chair ISPAH Board meetings and AGM
- Oversee strategic directions of ISPAH with periodic review of progress
- Provide leadership for the organisation and delivery of the biennial ISPAH congress
- Act as the primary public facing representative of the Society
- Report to ISPAH members at ISPAH AGM
- Represent ISPAH as requested at international and regional meetings
- Oversee the recruitment and rotation of ISPAH Board Members
- Oversee, with support of ISPAH Board members, the reporting of ISPAH for non-profit status
- Oversee, with ISPAH Treasurer, the financial accounts of ISPAH and Annual audit reports
- Oversee the nomination and election process of ISPAH President-Elect
- Oversee the ISPAH Executive Committee
- Provide support and direction (as needed) to the work of ISPAH Board members in each portfolio area of ISPAH (Treasurer, Membership, Governance, Communications, Advocacy, IT Systems, Councils, Partnerships)
- Pro-actively seek funding to support the activities of the Society
- Promote ISPAH to national and international organizations as required
- Authorize financial transactions in the absence of the Treasurer
- Prepare an annual report for the AGM, detailing the previous year’s activities
Roles of the Past-President include:
- Provide support and guidance to the ISPAH President and ISPAH Board on matters of governance, and awards/tributes
- Contribute to organisation and delivery of the biennial ISPAH congress
- Pro-actively seek funding to support the activities of the Society
- Represent ISPAH at regional and international meetings as requested
- As a member of the ISPAH Executive Committee, participate in Executive Committee meetings
Requirements:
- Senior figure in the field of physical activity and health
- Strategic thinker and negotiator
- Excellent leadership skills
- Experience collaborating with a broad portfolio of external partners (e.g., across academia, policy, practice)
Eligible candidates:
All ISPAH members are eligible to run for President. Preference is given to candidates who have served on the ISPAH Board and/or been active in regional networks on physical activity.

Procedure:
- The ISPAH Executive Committee will evaluate the received applications and shortlist two individuals.
- The ISPAH membership will be invited to vote by way of electronic survey.
- Applicants names and statements will be posted on the ISPAH website at the opening of the ballot period.
- Voting will take place from 2nd May and will close on 27th May.
- Only ISPAH members are eligible to vote.
- The candidate receiving the largest number of votes from ISPAH members shall be elected.
- In the case of a tie, the ISPAH Board will vote to select one of the two candidates.
