Member Engagement Lead

Term: October 2026 – October 2028

The Member Engagement Lead supports the development and engagement of the ISPAH members, ensuring that membership activities align with the Society’s strategic priorities and mission. The Lead works closely with the Executive Committee and Board to support membership growth, retention, and engagement across ISPAH’s global community. They also support engagement with ISPAH councils and networks, and contribute to the review and refinement of membership structures to support accessibility, equity, and sustainability.

• Reports to: ISPAH President
• Works closely with: ISPAH Executive (President, Past President and President Elect), ISPAH Communications Committee, ISPAH Board Members and relevant ISPAH Committees

Purpose of the Role

The Member Engagement Lead provides strategic oversight of membership development and engagement for ISPAH, supporting the Society and its Executive Committee in strengthening and expanding its global community. Through their role on the Board, the Member Engagement Lead helps ensure that member perspectives and needs are reflected in ISPAH’s strategic priorities and initiatives. The role supports initiatives that enhance member value, participation, and connection within the Society. By working collaboratively with the Executive, Board members, and relevant committees, the Member Engagement Lead contributes to the growth, diversity, and long-term vitality of the ISPAH membership.

Key Responsibilities

The ISPAH Member Engagement Lead supports the growth, engagement, and retention of the ISPAH membership, ensuring that membership activities align with the Society’s mission and strategic priorities. Key responsibilities include:

• Oversee ISPAH member activities.
• Liaise with Council Leads to establish and maintain communication, provide support, solicit newsletter and social media content to highlight Council activities.
• Periodically implement surveys related to members’ needs and preferences to guide action in terms of new benefits, activities, website content, networking, training, continuing education, funding, etc.
• Periodically review member benefits and member pricing.
• Liaise with the Communication committee on promotional marketing campaigns around membership and member engagement.
• Liaise and support membership promotions and processes in conjunction with the ISPAH Congress.
• Periodically review and ensure each Council adheres to the requirements outlined in the Council Operating Framework.
• Maintain an up-to-date contact list for all Council leadership teams (Chairs, Deputy Chairs and Secretariats) and support recruitment for such roles.
• Ensure accurate and up-to-date representation of ISPAH Councils and networks on the ISPAH website.
• Support compliance with ISPAH membership requirements for Council and network roles.

Selection Criteria

Essential

• ISPAH member. 
• Active engagement or prior involvement with ISPAH or similar national/international societies.
• Experience in committee or leadership roles (e.g., club officer).
• Demonstrated experience in member engagement, community building, or coordinating activities within a professional network, organization, or society.
• Experience organizing initiatives, events, or activities that support member participation and connection.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and collaborate with a diverse, global membership.
• Commitment to equity, inclusion, and global representation in physical activity and public health.

Desirable

• Experience working with professional societies, academic networks, or international organizations.
• Experience developing or implementing strategies to increase engagement, participation, or membership value.
• Familiarity with digital engagement tools or platforms (e.g., newsletters, social media, online communities, webinars).
• Experience collaborating with committees, working groups, and stakeholder groups.
• Interest in supporting the sustainability and growth of the global physical activity and public health community.

Time Commitment

Estimated average commitment of approximately 2-3 hours per week, with variability depending on activities and events.

Additional time may be required around ISPAH Congress, reporting periods, or strategic initiatives.

The ISPAH Governance Member Engagement Lead will be appointed through an open and transparent expression of interest process, in line with ISPAH governance procedures. Appointment is subject to approval by the ISPAH Board, and you may be required to attend an interview.
