Vancouver 2021

Vancouver proudly hosted the 8th International Society for Physical Activity and Health (ISPAH) Congress from October 12 to 14, 2021.

The ISPAH Congress represented the world’s largest forum related to physical activity and public health. ISPAH was recognized as the leading global society focusing on promoting physical activity across the lifespan.

The 8th ISPAH Congress brought together thought-leaders, policymakers, community leaders, Indigenous elders, and researchers from over 30 countries for conversation, debate, and innovation based on the theme of “The Wholistic Approach to Health and Wellness through Physical Activity: Body, Spirit, and Mind.” A key objective of the conference was to advance knowledge of the benefits of physical activity for optimal health and well-being across the lifespan. There was also a special focus on improving understanding of health disparities globally and wholistic wellness within Indigenous communities.

The organisers were delighted to welcome everyone to their beautiful city. However, owing to the global COVID-19 pandemic, they worked to create a virtual conference, recognizing that many were unable to attend in person. For those interested in travelling, they also held a smaller safely distanced in-person option related to associated satellite meetings on October 11, 2021. Members registered for the virtual congress were allowed to attend all associated satellite meetings in person for free (dependent upon availability and local health restrictions).

The updated format was designed to help ensure the safety and well-being of delegates and allow for the attendance of participants from around the world.

The Congress was designed so that virtual sessions were held in different time zones, allowing for wide participation of delegates globally. All virtual sessions were recorded to enable registered delegates to view them at a later time.
