ISPAH and AHKGA are united in their commitment to support young people to be physically active.
In 2022, ISPAH established a partnership with Active Healthy Kids Global Alliance (AHKGA) focused on supporting physically active lifestyles in children and youth through thought leadership, knowledge translation and mobilization, capacity building, and advocacy.
Who is AHKGA?
AHKGA is a registered not-for-profit organization made up of researchers, health professionals, and stakeholders who work together to advance physical activity in children and youth around the world. AHKGA’s vision is a world of active healthy kids. The dominant effort of the AHKGA to date has been its Global Matrix initiative. This involves the production and subsequent comparison of country-specific Physical Activity Report Cards for children and youth, using a harmonized process to assess and assign letter grades to a number of common physical activity indicators. The Global Matrix 4.0 compared 57 countries from six continents to assess global levels and trends in child and adolescent physical activity. For further information visit the AHKGA website at www.activehealthykids.org.
Why is this partnership important?
Children and adolescents around the world are not moving enough to promote healthy growth and development. Modern lifestyles, including increases in digital screen time, the growing urbanization of communities, and the rise in automation of previously manual tasks, are contributing to a pervasive yet unequally distributed public health problem that must be recognized as a global priority. The AHKGA Physical Activity Report Cards are a means of sharing learning across the globe to support countries in developing the infrastructure and opportunities needed to support young people to be physically active. ISPAH is proud to work with AHKGA to share practice and power the global movement to get children and adolescents more physically active.
