Overview

I am an Associate Professor in Public Health at the University of East Anglia and President of the International Society for Physical Activity and Health (ISPAH). With a research background in physical activity and a PhD in public health policy, my work focuses primarily on the interface between research and policy. I am interested in how to gain greater political traction for the physical activity and health agenda, the use of scientific evidence to inform public health guidelines and policy decision-making, and how to modify structures, environments, and opportunities, at scale, to support populations to be more active. I have acted as an advisor to a range of national and international health promotion agencies. I was on the Strategic Advisory Network for the development of the WHO Global Action Plan on Physical Activity 2018 – 2030 and a member of the Guideline Development Group for the 2020 WHO guidelines on physical activity and sedentary behaviour.
