Finance Lead

Term: October 2026 – October 2028

The Finance Lead supports the financial management and oversight of ISPAH, ensuring that the Society’s financial practices are transparent, accountable, and aligned with its strategic priorities. The role works closely with the Executive Committee and Board to support budgeting, financial monitoring, and reporting processes that enable effective planning and decision-making. Through collaboration with relevant Board members and operational leads, the Finance Lead helps ensure the Society’s financial resources are managed responsibly to support ISPAH’s programs and activities.

Reporting and Relationships

• Reports to: ISPAH President
• Works closely with: ISPAH Executive (President, Past President and President Elect), ISPAH Board Members, consulting accounting firm, IT infrastructure provider

Purpose of the Role

The Finance Lead provides strategic oversight of financial planning and sustainability for ISPAH, supporting the Society and its Executive Committee in making informed financial decisions. Through their role on the Board, the Finance Lead helps ensure that financial considerations are integrated into ISPAH’s strategic priorities and major initiatives. The role supports responsible stewardship of the Society’s resources while helping identify opportunities to strengthen financial sustainability. By working collaboratively with the Executive, Board members, and relevant committees, the Finance Lead contributes to the effective delivery of ISPAH’s activities and its long-term organizational stability.

Key Responsibilities

The ISPAH Finance Lead is responsible for overseeing the financial management of the Society to ensure transparency, accountability, and alignment with the Society’s strategic priorities. Key responsibilities include:

• Oversee ISPAH financial activities as required.
• Maintain oversight of the ISPAH bank account and provide regular updates to the Board.
• Act as primary cardholder for online and in-person payments.
• Coordinate approval and action of recurring and ad hoc invoices and payments, including board member expenses and payments to Human Kinetics for ISPAH members’ JPAH subscriptions
• Assist, as needed, with finances (e.g. payments) related to the ISPAH Congress.
• Provide financial support to the Member Engagement Lead regarding membership payment troubleshooting.
• Maintain regular contact with the Society-appointed accountancy firm to ensure ISPAH meets the appropriate standards of financial management, including production of an annual financial report. 
• Succession planning for future Finance leadership.
• Provide reports (written/verbal) on Finance activities/ issues at Board meetings and the AGM.

Selection Criteria

Essential

• ISPAH member. 
• Active engagement or prior involvement with ISPAH or similar national/international societies.
• Experience in committee or leadership roles (e.g., club officer).
• Demonstrated experience in (or a strong desire to learn) financial management, budgeting, or financial oversight within an organization, project, or committee.
• Strong organizational and analytical skills, with the ability to interpret and communicate financial information clearly.
• Commitment to transparency, accountability, and responsible stewardship of organizational resources.
• Commitment to equity, inclusion, and global representation in physical activity and public health.

Desirable

• Experience managing finances for a non-profit, academic, professional society, or similar organization.
• Familiarity with financial reporting, planning, and governance processes.
• Experience supporting strategic planning or decision-making using financial information.
• Experience working with international organizations or partnerships.
• Interest in supporting the sustainability and growth of the global physical activity and public health community.

Time Commitment

Estimated average commitment of approximately 1-2 hours per week, with variability depending on activities and events.

Additional time may be required around ISPAH Congress, reporting periods, or strategic initiatives.
